2013 Whistler Film Festival Announces Winners

The awards winners for the 2013 Whistler Film Festival are:

THE HUSBAND Wins Borsos Award for Best Canadian Feature
Tatiana Maslany Wins Best Performance in A Borsos Film second year in a row
JINGLE BELL ROCKS! Wins World Documentary Award
Best Mountain Culture Film is THE CRASH REEL
Canadian ShortWork Award went to ANXIOUS OSWALD GREENE
International ShortWork Award went to a A GRAND CANAL
Student ShortWork Awarded to BACKWARD FALL
MPPIA Short Film Award goes to THE FUTURE PERFECT

Jennifer Merin, Founder of the Alliance of Women Film Journalists Inc. (AWFJ) announced the presentation of three juried AWFJ EDA Awards at this year’s Whistler Film Festival. AWFJ, a nonprofit organization of leading female film journalists with active members in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, recognizes outstanding achievements by women filmmakers by presenting its prestigious EDA Awards at year’s end and at select film festivals. Best Female Directed Narrative Feature was awarded to THE ANIMAL PROJECT directed by Ingrid Veninger; Best Female Directed Documentary was awarded to THE CRASH REEL directed by Lucy Walker; and Special Mention for Documentary Excellence was awarded to HI-HO MISTAHEY directed by Alanis Obomsawin.

The WFF Audience Award went to Jason Priestley’s charming road movie CAS & DYLAN, one of Six contenders in the Borsos Competition for Best Canadian Feature which features a heart warming turn by movie icon Richard Dreyfuss and another scene stealing performance by Tatiana Maslany, who won Best Performance in a Borsos Competition film for the second year running.

The WFF Audience Award runner up went to THE GRAND SEDUCTION, a Canadian comedy directed by Don McKellar and written by Ken Scott. The WFF Audience Award is a non-cash prize presented to the highest-rated film as voted by the audience.
