AFI FEST 2013 Announces Conversations w/ Steve McQueen, Annette Benning & Young Hollywood

OVER 100 ARTISTS FROM 23 COUNTRIES TO ATTEND

AFI FEST 2013 presented by Audi, a program of the American Film Institute announced the Conversations programs and some of the artists who are expected to attend this year’s festival. AFI FEST, which redefines today’s Hollywood as a place where icons and emerging artists bring audiences together to experience global cinema in the movie capital of the world, will take place November 7 through 14 at the historic TCL Chinese Theatre, the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres, the Egyptian Theatre and the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

Some of the year’s hottest rising stars will engage in a lively discussion with The Times’ Amy Kaufman on their life in the industry and being thrust into the limelight. This year’s panelists include Dane DeHaan (THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES, KILL YOUR DARLINGS), Greta Gerwig (FRANCES HA) Michael B. Jordan (FRUITVALE STATION), Brie Larson (SHORT TERM 12) and Miles Teller (THE SPECTACULAR NOW).

ON DIRECTING: A CONVERSATION WITH STEVE McQUEEN

Acclaimed British artist and filmmaker Steve McQueen in conversation about directing his latest film, 12 YEARS A SLAVE. In 2008 McQueen’s critically acclaimed first feature, HUNGER (AFI FEST 2009), won the Camera d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. He followed with 2011’s provocative SHAME (AFI FEST 2011). 12 YEARS A SLAVE is based on the incredible true story of Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man abducted into slavery.
