Award Winning Doc THE FLYING STARS to Screen at Toronto Black Film Festival

TORONTO – Award-winning documentary, The Flying Stars, returns for its hometown premiere at the fourth Toronto Black Film Festival (TBFF) on Friday, Feb. 12 at 5:00 pm at the Carlton Cinema. Toronto filmmakers Ngardy Conteh George and Allan Tong will introduce the film. The Flying Stars recently was named best documentary at Atlanta’s BronzeLens Film Festival.

The Flying Stars profiles amputee soccer players, Bornor and Census, who play the beautiful game to cope with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in postwar Sierra Leone. In the film, Bornor is an amputee who plays organized soccer in Sierra Leone to cope with the horrors of war he suffered a decade ago. As he dreams of playing internationally, the fiery team captain wrestles with nightmares that haunt his daily life and threaten the very family he is struggling to feed in one of the poorest nations on Earth. Can Bornor overcome his postwar trauma and score a victory for his children off the soccer pitch?

“We’re proud to premiere our film before hometown audiences at the Toronto Black Film Festival during Black History Month,” declare Conteh George and Tong.

The Flying Stars is supported by the Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program and remains the only documentary to ever win the Telefilm Canada Pitch This! competition at TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) in 2011 (under the working title, Leone Stars). The film was produced by Toronto’s Mattru Media in association with Catbird Productions of Montreal. The sales agent is Doc & Film International of Paris.
