In a remote mountain village, a recent immigrant La Hong dies after stepping on explosives that young villager Han Chong set-up to catch a badger. The elders of the village force Han Chong to care for La Hong’s mute wife Hong Xia instead of reporting the case to the police. The conflict between the villagers and the widow Qin Hua, who envies their relationship continues to increase as Han Chong’s attraction toward Hong Xia grows. In the end, Hong Xia’s dark past is revealed and the film comes to an unexpected ending.
