Capsule Review: Fiabeschi Comes Home (Fiabeschi Torna a Casa)

by allan tong for FILMbutton

Enrico Fiabeschi lost his girlfriend, has no job and left university without collecting a degree. His friends went their own ways and he has nothing in his pocket. Feeling alienated in Bologna, he returns to his family in smalltown Cuculicchio where he hopes to find a new direction and perhaps love. The probem is, Who cares? Fiabeschi is a charmless loser. He’s arrogant and vain. Worse, director/star Maximilian Mazzotta constantly mugs for the camera with a self-satisfied grin as if to tell us how wonderful he is on screen. Oh, and none of this is funny. Fiabeschi Comes Home is one of the worst films I’ve seen in a long time.

ICFF Screening Time: June 29, 7:30 pm / June 30, 7:00 pm

Allan is a Toronto filmmaker, co-directing Leone Stars, a documentary about child victims of the Sierra Leonean civil war.
