THE 9TH ANNUAL CARIBBEANTALES INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
My Lens: CaribbeanTales celebrates our lens, our perspective
September 3 – 13, 2014

The 11-day festival aims to embody Caribbean culture through the lens of filmmakers. It will showcase Caribbean films from 15 selected countries around the region including 10-feature length and 20 short films in competition for the CTFF Audience Prize. It will also include an intensive four-day Market Incubator program as well as various networking sessions.

The festival kicks off with a Caribbean reception beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday September 3 at the Royal Cinema, 608 College Street, Toronto. The evening’s agenda will be an introduction of the Market Incubator’s participants.

The reception will be followed by the World Premiere screening of The Glamour Boyz Again! Sparrow. The feature-length documentary reveals a remarkable acoustic performance by two of Calypso’s most venerated figures, The Mighty Sparrow and Lord Superior. “This film is great cultural archive for the region,” said Malinda Francis, festival director. “This year we continue to explore the various authentic lens of the Caribbean; My Lens: CaribbeanTales celebrates our lens, our perspective.”

From September 4 – 7, the festival hosts the Market Incubator, which gives eight selected filmmakers an opportunity to hone their creative and business skills, through workshops and one‐on‐one mentoring by world-class specialists. It will culminate in a pitching session in front of international funders and buyers at the TIFF Bell Lightbox. The fest also organizes a number of intimate events at the University of Toronto with many opportunities to network informally with international industry players.
