Young Hongi (James Rolleston, star of Boy) is the son of a great chief. He longs to be trained as a fighter but his father plans for him to be a strategist and guardian of his people. When Wirepa (Te Kohe Tuhaka) the son of a rival tribe arrives in his village Hongi suspects he harbours treacherous intentions. Hongi’s efforts to expose Wirepa backfire when he is blamed for an act of desecration. With war between the two great tribes now likely Wirepa commits the ultimate act of treachery.
