Inside Llewyn Davis: Swiss premiere

Inside Llewyn Davis

Swiss premiere

After their jaunt through the plains of the Great American West in True Grit, Ethan and Joel Coen have taken hold of a new legend of American pop culture: the folk scene of New York’s Greenwich Village in the beginning of the 1960s. Inside Llewyn Davis slips you into the shabby shoes of a bearded guitar player with the kind of loser appeal that has become a signature of the two directors. Llewyn faces the difficulties of everyday life where nothing ever seems to go his way. The sardonic humour of this comedy is enriched by the exquisite finesse of its cinematography and well-chosen cast: Oscar Isaac, a revelation in the leading role; Carey Mulligan (Drive, The Great Gatsby), John Goodman (O’Brother, Where Art Thou?, The Big Lebowski) and Justin Timberlake.

Winner of the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, this latest in the line of Coen cult films will be shown for the first time in Switzerland at Festival Tous Ecrans. To finish the evening, the British folk singer Ed Harcourt, the deserving successor to the greatly missed Elliott Smith, will take to the stage for a one-off concert.

Ed Harcourt Concert

To carry on the celebration, the screening will be followed by an exclusive concert by Ed Harcourt. The British songwriter and contemporary pop-folk wonder boy will appear solo in the magical, intimate setting of the Athénée 4.

DJ Lady Black Sally will spin a garage, rockabilly, mambo set from midnight to 3 a.m. in the 1900s décor of Le Kiosque des Bastions, once again the official festival bar.

Thursday 31 October, Athénée 4, 10.30pm / Kiosque des Bastions, from midnight
