Edinburgh International Film Festival explores new ideas in cinema, inviting local and international audiences to engage with a dynamic programme of fiction and documentary work.

A festival committed to showcasing the most exciting, original and challenging new films and the most promising new talent, each year EIFF welcomes over 1,400 industry delegates, filmmakers and members of the press. The 69th EIFF will take place from 17 to 28 June 2015.

Industry offerings include a packed programme of events, screenings and networking opportunities. They run alongside a series of talent development initiatives designed to support the best emerging talent from across the UK.

Festival strands this year include Best of British, American Dreams, Directors’ Showcase, New Perspectives, Documentaries/Doc of the Day, Night Moves, Animation, Black Box, Shorts, The Young and the Wild, Classics and our Retrospectives – Focus on Mexico, Little Big Screen and Walter Hill: The Early Years.

Awards at EIFF include Best International Feature Film, Best International Documentary Feature, the Michael Powell Award for Best British Feature Film, the Student Critics Jury Award and the Audience Award. EIFF also gives awards in the categories of animation and short film.

EIFF also offer a range of screenings and workshops for young people as part of our Education activity. This includes our Young Programmers and Student Critics Jury programmes.

We are delighted to once again partner with City of Edinburgh Council and Screen Education Edinburgh to give young people in Edinburgh the chance to have their film selected for the Festival and screened alongside leading filmmakers. Now in its seventh year the competition is open to all pupils in nursery, primary and secondary education. Work is viewed and selected by a Youth Jury who curates the programme and awards ceremony as presented at the Festival in June. The young filmmakers literally share a stage with leading filmmakers from across the world, so it is an excellent opportunity for any aspiring Spielberg.

In 2014, 148 films were entered from City of Edinburgh Schools, including Primary, Secondary, Special Schools and Nursery establishments. The Young Jurors selected the final 46 films which were screened as part of the Edinburgh International Film Festival in June with awards given to best of categories.
