Filmfest Munchen – Munich International Film Festival

179 current films from 54 countries are screening at FILMFEST MÜNCHEN, including 39 world premieres. Among them are many new discoveries and envelope-pushers which defy categorization. But there are also a host of big names and major hits, which guarantee movie suspense. A brief overview:

Many films at FILMFEST MÜNCHEN come to us straight from the Cannes film festival: Matteo Garrone was in Munich in 2008 with GOMORRA, now he returns with the festival’s closing film THE TALE OF TALES starring Salma Hayek, Vincent Cassel and John C. Reilly. Joachim Trier’s LOUDER THAN BOMBS features Gabriel Byrne, Isabelle Huppert and Jesse Eisenberg. Arnaud Desplechin directs Mathieu Amalric in MY GOLDEN DAYS, Portuguese star director Miguel Gomes showed his three-part ARABIAN NIGHTS on the Côte D’Azur. EMBRACE OF THE SERPENT directed by Ciro Guerra won at the Director’s Fortnight, while Asif Kapadia’s documentary AMY about the life of Amy Winehouse and JOURNEY TO THE SHORE by Kiyoshi Kurosawa also garnered rave reviews...more
