TORONTO – The Bloor Hot Docs Cinema is pleased to host a limited theatrical engagement of GUANTANAMO’S CHILD: OMAR KHADR. An official selection at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival, GUANTANAMO’S CHILD: OMAR KHADR screens February 19 to 21, select times, at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema, 506 Bloor Street West.

Synopsis:

Last year, Toronto-born Omar Khadr was released after 13 years of imprisonment, including a decade at the notorious Guantanamo Bay detention camp. Captured at age 15 in Afghanistan, Khadr has spent most of his life fighting an uphill battle for freedom, first in a U.S. war crimes trial—he is the youngest person to be convicted of a war crime in modern history—and then against the Canadian government under Stephen Harper—which tried to persuade the Alberta Supreme Court that Khadr was a risk to the public. Finally, we are able to meet the resilient and earnest Khadr in person with this incredible portrait, a Shaw Media-Hot Docs Funds recipient, which also includes interviews with family, fellow inmates and more.
