LOS ANGELES, CA – Los Angeles-based production outfits Eclectic Pictures and Ineffable Pictures have announced the start of production on the feature film THE LATE BLOOMER. The film, directed by Kevin Pollak, in his directorial debut, totes an all-star ensemble cast including: Johnny Simmons (THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER, SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD), Maria Bello (PRISONERS, A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE), Brittany Snow (PITCH PERFECT 2), Jane Lynch ( Glee, WRECK-IT RALPH), JK Simmons (WHIPLASH, OZ), Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley), Beck Bennett (Saturday Night Live), Paul Wesley (Vampire Diaries), Ken Marino (WE’RE THE MILLERS, WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER), Ileana Douglas (GOODFELLAS), Charlotte McKinney (JOE DIRT 2: BEAUTIFUL LOSER), Vanessa Ragland (BANDITOS), Blake Cooper (THE MAZE RUNNER), and Lenora Crichlow (Being Human).

THE LATE BLOOMER is based on the life story of noted journalist and author Ken Baker, who battled with a skull base tumor that wreaked havoc on his hormonal system and prevented him from entirely going through puberty until age 27. Baker’s experience inspired his non-fiction book Man Made: A Memoir of my Body. Using the book and Baker as a comedic jumping off point, THE LATE BLOOMER tells the story of Pete Newmans, whose arrested development makes him an ideal counsel for restraint as a sex therapist. As he simultaneously falls in love and surgery cures his condition, Pete wrestles with a flood of emotions, as well as the reactions of friends, family and enemies as he copes with the wrenching changes in his life and body. Penned by Joe Nussbaum, Paul A. Kaplan & Mark Torgove, and Kyle Cooper & Austyn Jeffs, it’s a story of remarkable freshness and verve, wit and heartbreak—made all the more immediate and relatable when you realize this actually happened to somebody.

The production team includes director Kevin Pollak, a writer, producer and actor whose credits include directing the documentary MISERY LOVES COMEDY; Kevin Pollak’s Chat Show; A FEW GOOD MEN; THE USUAL SUSPECTS, and CASINO. Producers are Heidi Jo Markel of Eclectic Pictures, and Raphael Kryszek and Jesse Israel of Ineffable Pictures. Conor Charles is Co-producer.

Production on THE LATE BLOOMER has just commenced in Los Angeles and will wrap on September 5th on location in Bulgaria.
