Video Services Corp. Warms Up to Avi Lewis’ THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING

Toronto – In advance of its World Premiere at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival, Video Services Corp (VSC) has obtained all Canadian rights for the highly anticipated documentary This Changes Everything, a film by Avi Lewis.

Inspired by Naomi Klein’s international bestselling book of the same name, This Changes Everything is an ambitious global overview of the ravages of climate change as told through the experiences of communities on the front lines. From Montana’s Powder River Basin to the Alberta Tar Sands, from the coast of South India to Beijing and beyond, partners Lewis and Klein weave together emotional stories of struggle and survival within indigenous peoples who are forced into activism against the energy behemoths with surprising results.

Narrating throughout is Klein, who builds to her most controversial and exciting thesis: we can seize the existential crisis of climate change to transform our failed economic system into something radically better.

“We are honored to be working with this film,” said VSC President Jonathan Gross. “Avi and Naomi’s passion and vision are inspiring and we’re excited to be able to help them carry their message to Canadians.”

After the World Premiere in Toronto and the International Premiere in Paris in September, Klein and Lewis will attend special screenings across Canada between October 4th and 8th, followed by a multi-city theatrical release starting October 9th, and community screenings nationwide starting in November.

Says Lewis, “After 5 years of all-out commitment to making the film, I’m delighted to be in the launch tube at last – and thrilled that VSC shares our sense of urgency and excitement. And what cosmic good fortune that we’ll be in theatres just 10 days before Canadians go to the polls. This film is one plank of a multi-platform project calling for vastly more ambitious responses to the climate crisis than anything our political class has so far proposed. We believe the real solutions are coming from below, and the film embodies that spirit.”

The film was directed by Avi Lewis and produced by Avi Lewis and Joslyn Barnes, as well as Anadil Hossain; executive produced by Alfonso Cuarón, Danny Glover, Seth MacFarlane, Bertha Foundation, Jodie Evans, Matthew Palevsky, Lekha Singh, Alysha Sidhu and Shepard Fairey. Co-Executive Producers include Farhad Ebrahimi, Pamela Anderson, Vivienne Westwood, Susan Rockefeller and Kent Spriggs.

The deal was negotiated by Jonathan Gross of VSC and Scott Kaplan of FilmBuff. Along with Canadian rights, VSC is also the exclusive distributor for North America on DVD and Blu-ray. The DVD/Blu-ray release date will be in 2016.
