Slamdance Screens DIY Documentary @ 20th Annual Festival

Slamdance Film Festival remains true to its Do-It-Yourself roots as it enters its 20th year this January 17-23, 2014. As the festival known best for being made “By Filmmakers, For Filmmakers,” Slamdance marks 2014 as the year to take DIY filmmaking into the future.

With the debut of new multi-hued artwork by renowned artist David Flores, and the world premiere of the Slamdance original documentary DIY, this year’s 20th anniversary celebration looks forward to the future of independent filmmaking, and the Do-It-Yourself ethos Slamdance is known for.

DIY (Do-It-Yourself) is a documentary about the historical development of the Do-It-Yourself indie film movement, and the ability for new artists to sustain truly independent filmmaking. DIY has garnered support by many festival alumni, and will include interviews with current filmmaking heavyweights such as: Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight Rises), Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity), Anthony and Joe Russo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), David Greenspan (Grey’s Anatomy), Rian Johnson (Looper), Marc Forster (World War Z), Penelope Spheeris (Wayne’s World), Matt Johnson (The Dirties), Benh Zeitlin (Beasts of the Southern Wild), and many more.

DIY is helmed by Slamdance President & Co-Founder Peter Baxter and Slamdance TV veterans Ben Hethcoat and Eric Ekman.
