TJFF 15 – CHAGALL – MALEVICH

First Festival Screening – Tuesday, May 5 @ 6pm

Synopsis:

Inspired by Chagall’s life and art and filled with magic realist touches, Chagall-Malevich provides a fascinating look at the intersections of art, politics and passion during one chapter in the life of one of the 20th century’s most acclaimed and beloved artists. Veteran director Alexander Mitta’s dynamic film begins with Chagall returning to his hometown of Vitebsk on the eve of the Russian Revolution. After he marries childhood love, Bella Rosenfeld, and founds a modern art college, his idyllic home life and artistic career soon get caught up in a passionate web of betrayals and rivalries as the October Revolution sweeps across Russia. Visually stunning!
