TJFF 15 – THE GO-GO BOYS: THE INSIDE STORY OF CANNON FILMS

Festival Screening – Wednesday, May 6 @ 4pm

The meteoric rise and spectacular fall of Israeli movie moguls Menachem Golan and Yoram Globus, the cousins behind the legendary Cannon Films production company. After a string of hits in their native Israel (Sallah Shabati, Lemon Popsicle), Golan and Globus moved to the US to pursue fame and fortune. Establishing Canon Films in 1979, they came a staple of the Cannes Film Festival for many years, producing such over-the-top commercial hits and flops as The Delta Force and Over the Top (the arm-wrestling extravaganza starring Sylvester Stone). They also forged partnerships with arthouse directors such as Godard and Cassavetes. Made with the cooperation of both men, The Go Go Boys offers a glorious feast for cinephiles and ripe comedy for those new to the Cannon universe.
