The Toronto Jewish Film Festival continues its popular Chai Tea & A Movie series on February 9 with Igor and the Cranes’ Journey, a film by Evgeny Ruman (Lenin in October). The film received much acclaim at the 2012 Chicago International Children’s Film Festival, and won a Special Mention Award at the 2012 Haifa International Film Festival. This much-loved family film will screen at The City Playhouse Theatre in Vaughan.
Igor and the Cranes’ Journey is a lovely fable that will appeal to cinema lovers of all ages. In the aftermath of his parents’ divorce, 11-year-old Igor relishes visits with his father, an ornithologist in the Russian countryside. When his mother announces they are moving to Israel to start a new life, Igor’s world is turned upside-down. Struggling to adjust to his new Israeli school, he finds solace in tracking the migration of a flock of cranes from Eastern Europe to Africa. In this feature debut, young Israeli-Russian filmmaker Evgeny Ruman proves himself dexterous at mixing light humour with a truly heartwarming story.
