TJFF Chai Tea & A Movie – WEDDING DOLL

Screenings – Sunday January 17 @ 1pm & 4pm @ Empress Walk Theatres (Yonge & Sheppard)

TORONTO – The 2015/2016 Toronto Jewish Film Festival’s Chai Tea & A Movie screening series continues with Nitzan Gilady’s moving drama Wedding Doll.

A hit at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival, the film also won Best Israeli Debut Feature and Best Actress (Asi Levi) at the 2015 Jerusalem Film Festival, and received nine Ophir nominations (Israeli equivalent to the Oscars®), including Best Film, and Best Director.

Hagit (Moran Rosenblatt) is an idealistic young woman who spends her evenings making bridal gowns out of leftover materials from the toilet paper factory where she works. Her mother, Sara (Asi Levi) can’t help but be very protective of her daughter, who is unable to separate her romantic fantasies from real life.

When Hagit develops a relationship with the factory owner’s son, Omri (Roy Assaf), she begins sneaking out of the house and away from her mother’s shielding gaze. When news comes that the factory is to be shut down, Hagit, Sara, and Omri all have very different ideas about the next steps to be taken in their lives.

Best known for his documentary films, Wedding Doll is writer/director Nitzan Gilady’s first fiction feature, an impressive debut that earned critical acclaim and multiple accolades at various major international film festivals.
