WOMEN IN DOCS (AND ACROSS THE FESTIVAL)

At this year’s Doc/Fest 73 of the 150 films screening at Doc/Fest are made by women. Women’s stories and issues feature across the interactive, sessions and film strands, including in the Women in Docs strand, which showcases female talent on screen and behind the lens.

In the Virtual Reality Arcade in the Site Gallery, Nonny de la Peña brings Kiya to Interactive at Sheffield. A virtual reality account of two sisters who try to rescue their third sister Kiya from her ex-boyfriend, it puts the viewer in the scene on the tragic day that events unfold.

In the sessions programme Women In The Industry will discuss the challenges facing women trying to forge a career in the independent documentary industry. Moderated by Cat Cooper (Elfin Films) with Corinna Antrobus (Bechdel Test Fest), Leslee Udwin (Assassin Films Ltd), Jeanie Finlay (Glimmer Films Ltd) and Debra Zimmerman (Women Make Movies).
