AMY To Screen at 2015 NXNE in Film Program

Here is North by Northeast’s exciting Film programming for this year’s festival. NXNE will present the Canadian premiere of Amy at Bloor Hot Docs Cinema on Saturday, June 20. This haunting documentary by Asif Kapadia (Senna) was a stand-out recently at Cannes Film Festival and tells the story of Amy Winehouse in her own words through archive footage and previously unreleased tracks.

Other films in NXNE include the Canadian premiere of Diamond Tongues, a dramatic comedic film about a struggling Toronto actor. This film is supported by and crafted by the Toronto music scene including lead actor Leah Fay of the band July Talk and producer Brendan Canning of Broken Social Scene, who also created the Film’s soundtrack.

Legendary filmmaker Jonathan Demme’s Made in Texas is a collection of six short films that represent the creative community and avant-garde nature of Austin in the late 1970s and early 1980s, especially the new wave and punk scenes. This presentation will be followed by a discussion hosted by SXSW co-founder Louis Black.

Lastly, NXNE will present Industrial Soundtrack For The Urban Decay, a documentary by Amélie Ravalec & Travis Collins about the origins of Industrial music.
