Canadian Filmmakers/Producers Honoured Today With Emmy Nominations

Winners will be announced during the September 30, 2014 Awards ceremony in New York City

Tales From the Organ Trade, an unprecedented investigation into the black market trade for human organs, garnered 2 Emmy nominations today.The film is up for Outstanding Investigative Journalism and director Ric Esther Bienstock is also nominated in the Outstanding Writing category. The film won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow earlier this year. The same team won an Emmy for Outstanding Investigative Journalism for their last documentary, Sex Slaves (2006).

“I’m overjoyed to be recognized for the second time by the Emmys,” says director Ric Esther Bienstock. “This was such a challenging film to make and I feel that this nomination is a testament to all the courageous people who appeared on camera to tell their powerful stories.”

After 12 nominations and one win at the Canadian Screen Awards earlier this year, Toronto-based Storyline Entertainment continues its success as a producer of documentaries of distinction with two Emmy Award nominations. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences list of nominees for the 35th Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards includes two Storyline films; Herman’s House, by Angad Singh Bhalla, received a nomination for Outstanding Arts and Culture Programming and The World Before Her, by Nisha Pahuja, received a nomination for Outstanding Coverage a Current News Story—Long Form.
