Restoration was nominated for 11 Israeli Academy Awards.
After its participation in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition at the Sundance Film Festival, and more recently, its Canadian premiere at TIFF, the Toronto Jewish Film Festival (TJFF) is thrilled to present Restoration, the much-celebrated drama from Israel, to kick- start its popular monthly series, Chai Tea & A Movie.
In Restoration, 70-year-old Yaakov Fidelman is determined to hang on to the antique restoration workshop he has made his life’s work, and rejects his son’s wish to close the business and build an apartment complex on the site. Yaakov believes that with the help of his new apprentice, he’ll find a way to save his workshop and his solitary way of life.
Sasson Gabai (The Band’s Visit, Aviva My Love) delivers a quiet but deeply resonant performance as Yaakov, who is being forced out of the life he knows by the dictates of time and old age.
