Cineplex Entertainment presents REUNION OF GIANTS this Remembrance Day – Free Admission to the Film

Toronto, ON – In the summer of 2014, for the first time in 50 years, the world’s two remaining airworthy World War II-era Avro Lancaster bombers reunited in a final salute to the many courageous Veterans who flew and maintained one of history’s most important planes.

It was no small feat: The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum’s 70 year-old Lancaster, VeRA, made the harrowing flight – complete with mechanical failures and unexpected storms – from its home in Hamilton, Ontario – across the big pond – to the United Kingdom.

Morgan Elliott and team documented the historic journey – and now, thanks to Highway Entertainment, Suddenly SeeMore Productions Inc., Cineplex Entertainment and the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum – Canadians will have a chance to experience it on the big screen, as we commemorate Remembrance Day on November 11.

“We are so pleased to provide Canadians with the opportunity to remember the valiant crews who flew and maintained the Lancaster bomber,” said Pat Marshall, Vice-President, Communications and Investor Relations, Cineplex Entertainment. “We look forward to offering Canadians a chance to experience VeRA’s incredible transatlantic journey this Remembrance Day.”

Participating theatres will be announced this September with free tickets becoming available beginning October 2, 2015. For information on tickets, theatre locations and future DVD availability, please visit Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum.

Reunion of Giants – from Suddenly SeeMore Productions Inc., and Highway Entertainment – follows VeRA the Lancaster bomber, from its hangar at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum on a voyage that would travel through Goose Bay, Labrador; Iceland and then on to England. Along the way, the crew encountered an engine failure, an emergency landing — and at the very end of their journey to England – a storm preventing an easy landing. It all proved worthwhile as millions came out to see VeRA, and her English counterpart, Thumper, take to the skies.

The documentary includes interviews with Veterans of the Royal Air Force’s Bomber Command – who flew one of the war’s most important planes.

“History was going to be made and we had to document it. Reunion of Giants is a modern story in honour of the very brave men of Bomber Command,” said Morgan Elliott, Executive Producer, Suddenly SeeMore Productions Inc. “It’s with great thanks to Highway Entertainment for supporting the production, together with Cineplex and The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, that people across Canada will be able to see this important story. Lest We Forget.”

Lancaster KB726 “VRA,” affectionately referred to as VeRA, was built in 1945 in Malton, Ontario, and after 19 years of service in the Royal Canadian Air Force, ended up on a display pedestal outside the Royal Canadian Legion in Goderich, Ontario before its acquisition by the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in 1977. After a long and painstaking restoration process, the plane was ready for flight in 1988. Changes to avionics, communications and emergency survival equipment had to be installed before the 2014 transatlantic flight could take place.

“We are exceptionally proud to work with Cineplex, Suddenly SeeMore Productions and the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum to help complete an incredible project,” said Adam Ivers, President and CEO of Highway Entertainment. “It feels great to help bring such an important piece of history to the big screen to honour those that are responsible for ensuring the rights and freedoms Canadians enjoy today.”

“The summer of 2014 presented a unique opportunity for the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum to realize the goal of flying our Canadian built Lancaster to the UK in honour of all those who served in Bomber Command during the war. This “once in a Lanc-time” trip was in substance “an Act of Remembrance” and tribute especially for all the Canadians who built, flew and maintained these iconic aircraft in times of severe danger and challenges,” said David G. Rohrer, President and CEO, Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum and Lancaster Pilot.
