CineFocus is proud to present the screening of GreenHeroes: Sarah Harmer, at the 11th Annual Planet in Focus International Environmental Film & Video Festival on Friday, October 15th at 7:15 p.m. Featuring internationally renowned singer/songwriter Sarah Harmer, the short film profiles the award-winning singer’s fight to protect a part of the Escarpment on Mount Nemo in Burlington, Ontario.

In the film, Sarah flexes her musical muscles to protect the Niagara Escarpment in her own backyard. Sarah grew up in Southern Ontario, near this breathtakingly beautiful escarpment, which is now a UNESCO appointed world biosphere site. As a GreenHero, Sarah tells the story of an epiphanic moment that turned her into a conservationist. Seeing huge tracts of her beloved escarpment being quarried for road aggregate she was compelled to take action to right this ecological injustice. Sarah is dedicated to the Niagara Escarpment’s preservation, and to achieve this goal, she co-founded PERL (Protecting Escarpment Rural Land) and mounts a concert each year featuring renowned musicians like Bruce Cockburn and Feist.

GreenHeroes: Sarah Harmer was directed and co-produced by Joan Prowse and produced by John Bessai. They are the co-founders of CineFocus Canada – a notable producer of prime-time award winning biography, arts and social issue TV programs. This short film is part of the Transmedia GreenHeroes campaign that includes the website GreenHeroes.tv and the Greenheroes TV series premiering November 2, 2010 on TVO.
