Mark Rabinowitz

Mark Rabinowitz is currently the Account Director at Platform Media Group (PMG), a full-service publicity and marketing firm in Los Angeles and a member of the Louisville Film Commission.

A 20-year veteran of the international and independent film world, he is the co-founder of indieWIRE.com and has been active in the film world as a producer, journalist, publicist, festival staffer, and consultant since 1995. He has attended over 175 film festivals around the world, including Sundance, Cannes, Toronto, Berlin, Rotterdam, and Dubai, and has served on juries at the Edinburgh International, Montreal World, Nashville, Starz Denver, and Oxford Film Festivals.

Festivals
Mark was the guest programmer for the Hamptons International Film Festival’s successful Films of Conflict & Resolution section in 2002 and from 2003-4 and again in 2010 he was HIFF’s Industry Liaison, where his responsibilities included developing and implementing the festival’s new international initiatives and serving as a key festival ambassador to the global film industry. In 2010 he created a pilot industry mentoring program for attending filmmakers. He has also programmed panels at the Nantucket Film Festival.

Public Relations and Marketing
In 2012 he began working as a consultant for PMG, becoming Account Director in December of 2013. Current and past clients include: Knitting Factory Entertainment, Marriott Content Studios, Merrell Worldwide, 2015 scientific and technical Academy Award winner Robert Nagle, Amy Berg’s An Open Secret and world famous tattoo artist Megan Massacre.

Film Acquisitions
Mark Served as US Acquisitions and Business Development Manager for the Morgan Spurlock co-founded short documentary company Cinelan, as well as creating a blog for Cinelan’s Focus Forward initiative. He was also an acquisitions consultant for Babelgum and Snag Films.

Journalism
In addition to co-founding Indiewire.com, Mark has written extensively on film, TV, food, wine, politics and other subjects for outlets, including: CNN.com, Paste Magazine, Alternative Press, Screen International, Eating Los Angeles, Variety, Utne Reader, The Independent Film & Video Monthly, Time Out New York and Filmmaker Magazine.

Film Production
In 1994 Mark and director Andy Hudson wrote and produced Delinquent’s Derby, a 35mm short film which featured the screen debut of Jimmy Kimmel and in 2003 he co-produced the award-winning independent feature The Forgotten (d. Vincente Stasolla). He is currently serving as a producer on Darren Dean’s adaptation of Will Eisner’s landmark graphic novel A Contract With God and as co-producer on the Jon Cryer & Richard Schenkman-penned Cosmodrome.

Advertising & Politics
Among non-film related efforts, Mark was the Community Editor for the Ford Motor Company’s multiple award-winning site FordBoldMoves.com. Produced by JWT, FBM was designed to showcase Ford’s successful attempt at turning the company around while engaging the public in the process and was the first major example of Brand Journalism. The campaign won a 2007 Gold Clio in the Content & Contact category and a 2007 Bronze International ANDY Award in the Integrated Media category.

Before his foray into film, Mark was a political professional and in 1992, he staffed Tom Harkin’s presidential campaign in New Hampshire, Maine, and Michigan, where his duties included fund raising, event organization and media and union relations. He also staffed the 1988 and 1992 Democratic National Conventions, working with DNC Vice Chair Lynn Cutler (1988) and DNC Secretary Kathy Vick (1992). His duties included assisting in the conducting of the vice presidential nominating roll call vote and assisting the Louisiana state delegation (92) and VIP liaison (88).
