Episode of the Sea is the product of a two-year collaboration of the filmmakers with the residents of Urk, a small fishing community in the Netherlands. The former island of Urk was fused with the mainland in the mid-twentieth century when the inland sea, Zuiderzee, was drained to yield arable land. Yet Urk’s residents resist governmental pressure to adopt farming.
