This year marks the 18th anniversary of the Flickers: Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF). For the past 11 years during the month of June, Flickers has hosted a sneak peek of its main Festival LGBTQ sidebar. The annual event is called a “Secret Cinema” since Flickers’ schedule has not yet been officially released. Flickers will donate 50% of the admission fee to local LGBTQ organizations. New this year is the Festival’s partnership with The Vets (Veterans Memorial Auditorium) for a special screening in their newly christened 6th Floor Ballroom. This screening includes an opportunity to see a preview of a powerful new documentary by Rhode Island native and filmmaker, Alexia Kosmider.

The films to be presented at the “Secret Cinema” screenings represent a diverse collection of newly discovered shorts and feature films chosen from a pool of over 5,000 international submissions. Along with films that include well-known actors such as Christopher Atkins, Lee Meriwether, David Pevsner and Shirley Jones, attendees will have the privilege of watching a sneak peek preview of “TransJourney,” a new documentary by Rhode Island native, Alexia Kosmider. The film chronicles the journey of Sandy as she travels across the country from Rhode Island to Seattle to meet her “new” daughter and bring herself a little closer to Annabelle’s new world as a woman.

The Vets on Friday evening, June 13th and at the historic Bell Street Chapel on Saturday, June 14th.

Both screenings will start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the door for both screenings. A $10 donation is suggested for admission.

Flickers’ portion of the proceeds from the Friday night screening at The Vets will be donated to PFLAG – The Greater Providence Chapter, RI, an organization in support of parents, friends and families of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender children in Rhode Island.
