CFC Sends Filmmaking Team to Tribeca Film Festival

CFC (Canadian Film Centre) has chosen the filmmaking team behind JEAN OF THE JONSES to attend this year’s Tribeca All Access (TAA) program at the Tribeca Film Festival. JEAN OF THE JONSES is written and to be directed by Stella Meghie and produced by Circle Blue Films’ Amos Adetuyi. The filmmakers will receive mentorship and marketplace support through CFC’s partnership with the Tribeca Film Institute. TAA will take place on April 21-24 in New York City.

JEAN OF THE JONSES is a comedy/drama about a girl from a dysfunctional family of Jamaican women who have happily sent all the men in their lives running for the past 30 years. Jean is on the brink of following in the family tradition of self-inflicted abandonment and failure until her estranged grandfather dies on her doorstep. The script has received accolades and consultations from BET’s Urbanworld Film Festival, Atlanta Film Festival, and Nantucket Film Festival.

CFC is delighted to be continuing its relationship with the Tribeca Film Institute through Tribeca All Access. In seven years the TAA/CFC partnership has supported nine feature projects including CFC’s supported project RHYMES FOR YOUNG GHOULS (writer/director: Jeff Barnaby, producers: John Christou, Aisling Chin-Yee) which premiered at 2013 Toronto International Film Festival and is currently playing theatrically to great critical acclaim.

TAA was created to help foster and nurture relationships between film industry executives and filmmakers from statistically underrepresented communities. The program will provide the participating directors and screenwriters with workshops and the opportunity to present their upcoming works in one-on-one meetings with more than 100 potential investors, development executives, producers and agents in order to advance their careers and potentially find funding and exposure for their feature length screenplay or documentary work-in-progress.

CFC will travel the filmmaking team to New York and provide additional mentorship and support. CFC acts as the Canadian affiliate of the Tribeca All Access program and is the international filter for all Canadian projects and filmmakers both living in Canada and abroad.
