TORONTO – Hey Toronto, time to test your humor meter. Serial (Bad) Weddings directed by Philippe de Chauveron became the #1 Film in France, with over 12 million admissions, making it overall the #6 highest rated film of all time in that country. As well became the number #1 film in Europe, including Germany, Spain, and Italy, just to name a few countries. It screened in Quebec for over 30 weeks, making it the #1 film in that province, and thanks to A-Z Films, the film now makes its way to Toronto, opening at Cineplex Varsity Cinema and Empress Walk, as well as Ottawa (Kanata) at Landmark Cinemas, all beginning March 6.
The story reflects on Marie and Claude Verneuil who are are from a respected upper class family with four beautiful daughters. Three of their daughters, Isabelle, Odile, and Ségolène, married men from very different multicultural backgrounds for which their parents were not all too pleased. They were delighted though to hear their fourth daughter, Laure, announced her intention to marry Charles, a Catholic. And that means a traditional wedding at last! But when Laure informs them that Charles is from Africa, something snaps. The mother plunges into total meltdown and Claude, the father, plots to sabotage the wedding. He finds an unlikely ally in Charles’s father, André, who agrees with them on only one thing: what did they do to deserve this? The film has yet to open in the USA and United Kingdom.
